Highlight: This app also has information specifically for cyclists. I've listed the Premium version, so you won't need to do two separate downloads (at this writing you cannot upgrade within the BASIC app itself). This PREMIUM version provides information you'll need for the entire route, including accommodation options. There is a BASIC (free) version, but you'll only get accommodations for a couple of stages. For example, this is a Google Map with the Camino tracks from the Centro Nacional de Información Geográfica (CNIG). That said, if you really want to use Google Maps, a noption might be to use Google Maps with a proper Camino track overlaid. You can then continue west to Santiago de Compostela on the Camino Francés (note: this app does not cover that stretch. I highly recommend the popular Camino apps (Buen Camino, Wise Pilgrim, etc.). This app starts the route in Seville and goes to Astorga, a town on the Camino Francés ( instead of heading west from Granja de Moreruela, a town located south of Astorga - see his Sanabrés Way app here for that option). I wish I knew who created this so I could give him/her credit.Note: reviews are based on the iPhone app When you get to that web page - which is a very good map in itself - click on the link that says "Fly tour as Google Earth Animation" just beneath the map and next to the Google Earth icon to start the tour. Very interesting and most entertaining, but long - it takes about 45 minutes on my reasonably fast computer. It's the best known and most popular route. The discovery of the remains of the apostle led to the creation of the Camino de Santiago, and as a result, a whole Jacobean phenomenon that has lasted for millennia. It is the most addictive time- waster you could ever dream of. This feature is great to see places you stayed, check out trail conditions for a bike, or just relive your trip. Drag him to a place where the Camino crosses a road, and you’ll get a view from the street, often with pilgrims on the trail. Drag him onto the image, and “street view” roads become visible. In the top right corner is the icon of a little man. Once the track is open, you can turn on all sorts of layers, photos people have loaded, stores, hotels, restaurants, roads ,etc. A friend just sent me a link to an official government site, run by the Instituto Nacional Geográfico. Several tracks of different variations can be opened. ![]() From Google Earth, click file pen, and click on that file-whoosh, it will zoom to the track. Download one of these files and put it where you can find it. ![]() A track is a line on the image, and it can be downloaded from a file with a ,kml or ,kmz suffix. To see the Camino, you need to download a track. Once it is on your computer, there are various tutorials available, but basically, it allows you to view the whole earth, from the edge of the solar system to standing in some streets. You need to go to Google and download it. I’m sure many of you know it well, but I know from some of the PM’s I’ve answered, some have not fully used this great toy.
